NEWPORT BEACH, CALIF. — Californians like to think big and sometimes we even set records and win claims to fame. The World’s Biggest Wind Chimes in Fashion Island (Newport Beach) was unveiled by famous artist, Tom Van Sant, on September 11, 1967, on the front of a shopping mall department store. Most people pass it by without ever stopping and looking. There aren’t any really great places to stand next to the giant wall wind chime with over 50 domes and 300 chimes, and take your picture with it. Perhaps the bushes around it are by design to make sure people don’t get too close. But do wander in front of Macy’s store and wait for the wind to blow so you can hear the sound. Reports have allegedly measured the noise  at up to 50 decibels–really loud. But we stood there and found it very pleasant on a windy day.
