eight East Friesian ewes, one ram sired
by a national champion and the dream of
creating handcrafted sheep milk cheese, the
flock has grown to 200 ewes with the
addition of a small herd of Nubian
goats. No
herbicides, pesticides or artificial
fertilizers are used on the pastures,
and no hormones are given to their animals.
Each morning a
sumptuous gourmet breakfast is prepared by
Christine, a graduate of the Natural
Gourmet Institute in New York City.
Select your own eggs from the henhouse,
or pick berries in season from the
abundant vines in the organic garden.

Point Reyes Schoolhouse is an historic building at the top of the hill looking down on the little town and over to the beautiful Inverness Ridge of the Point Reyes Seashore. After ten years of hard work at night and on weekends, with not much more than their carpentry skills and determination, the schoolhouse became a home. Raising kids, chickens, vegetables, fruit trees and honey bees and making blackberry jam every summer the owners built a wood-fired oven in the garden, a pond, Jasmine Cottage, Gray's Retreat and the Barn Loft. At the end of an unpaved county road,
Emandal is 16 miles north east of
Willits, which lies 140 miles north of
San Francisco on Highway 101 (about a
3.5 hour drive from the Golden Gate
Bridge). From the Sacramento area,
Emandal is easily accessible by Highway
20 which joins Highway 101 fourteen
miles south of Willits. It is a little
over a half-hour drive from Willits to
Emandal. This varies according to the
driver and how many cows are on the
road. There are 19 redwood cabins
on the oak and fir clad hills, most
built between 1910 and 1925. Each cabin
is furnished with beds (along with bed
and bath linens), ceiling fans, cold
spring water and electricity.
Bathrooms and shower facilities are
located in the camp area. Serves three
meals each day (one meal on your arrival
and departure day), family style. There
is no bar.
