Coverlettes Have Christmas Covered in Cabaret Concert

BERKELEY, CALIF. -When The Coverlettes Cover(ed) Christmas in popular holiday concerts in 2008 and 2009 in Berkeley, they received acclaim. They've decided to cross the street to the famed Freight & Salvage for their 2010 Christmas cabaret concert. Bella, Ella, and Stella Duvet, three sisters from "the wrong side of Vermont", are back with their band, presenting Christmas music mixed with 60's popular sounds. You can't miss these lovely ladies with their bouffant hairdos and shiny dresses that sparkle under the spotlight for this festive and irreverent holiday event.

The show features the sisters'versions of their favorite Christmas songs, mixed in with lots of ‘60s era girl group hits by The Shangri-Las, The Ronettes, The Shirelles, The Crystals, etc., and a big dollop of their own history, angst, and joy. The backup band, The Fellas, include pianist Rusty McTurk (Bella's ex-husband), bassist Rudy Tuesday, and drummer Ray Wray.

Darby Gould (Stella Duvet) has been performing for over 30 years. In 1992, she was invited to join Jefferson Starship the Next Generation, replacing Grace Slick as the lead singer; she appears on their most recent recording, "Jefferson's Tree of Liberty," released in September 2008. Additional credits include a featured role in the popular stage production Tony & Tina's Wedding, and her voice can be heard in the Sims 2 Nightlife computer game. She continues to perform with various bands throughout the Bay Area.

Katie Guthorn (Bella Duvet) started singing in her first cover band, Zasu Pitts Memorial Orchestra (later Big Bang Beat) in 1983, and kept at it for 25 years! From 1992 to 2002, Katie starred in A Karen Carpenter Christmas in San Francisco and Seattle, for which she earned a Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Musical. She currently sings at Farley's in San Francisco with the Soul Delights, and the last Tuesday of every month at Cafe Trieste in Berkeley with the Randy Craig Trip, also featuring her husband, guitarist Terry Haggerty.

Carol Bozzio Littleton (Ella Duvet) is a member of the 12 piece rock and soul review band, Big Bang Beat. As a singer/songwriter in her original band, she performed on MTV and won on Star Search. She topped the Billboard dance charts performing as part of the all-girl group Modern Rocketry. She has recorded and performed internationally with many bands, and was a member and featured soloist of a mass gospel choir under the direction of Reverend James Cleveland. She sang back up with the Bud E. Luv Orchestra, Super Diamond, and was principal singer, actor, and dancer for Scandur and Company Productions.

Randy Craig (Musical Director, Rusty McTurk on Piano)
worked early on with the San Francisco Mime Troupe, was a founding member of The Pickle Family Circus, and has written too many scores for theater and a bunch of film scores. He was a part of two Obie Award-winning plays and scored an Academy Award-nominated film. He didn't win. He did a Bay Area Critic's' Circle Award for Best Musical Score. Randy just finished playing keyboard and composing the score in Bill Irwin's production of "Scapin" at the American Conservatory Theater.

Maurice Tani (Rudy Tuesday on Bass) is a singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist usually found with his Americana band 77 El Deora (www.77eldeora.com ). He and singing partner Jenn Courtney are releasing their third CD in January. He has worked with Katie Guthorn since the '80s in bands such as Zasu Pitts and Big Bang Beat and playing Papa John Phillips opposite her Mama Cass in Mama Cass' Summer of Love-In. He produced the Coverlettes Cover Christmas (and More!) CD for sale in the lobby

Vince Littleton (Raymond "Ray" Wray on Drums) Currently a member of Super Diamond, Vince spent seven years touring and recording with Merl Saunders & the Rainforest Band, and three years with The Mermen, as well as playing with Don Walser, Floyd Domino, Nina Gerber, and Ted Templeman. He has collaborated on soundtracks including Tales from the Crypt, Nash Bridges, Joe Bob Briggs at the Drive-In, and video games by Sega and Electronic Arts.
