In August a new program was launched to transport guests from a parking lot at Greek Theatre to the best viewing area for photos of the HOLLYWOOD sign. The Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks collaborated with Griffith Observatory to offer a promotional shuttle providing rides to the Hollywood Sign Viewing Area as well as the Griffith Observatory on Mount Hollywood Drive. Every Saturday and Sunday, and select Holidays through the end of 2014, guests can hop aboard  The fee is $10 per person, excluding children 2 years of age and under who are free when riding on the lap of an adult. Upon arrival to the Hollywood Sign Viewing Area, riders are welcomed to a panoramic view of the Hollywood Sign, the Los Angeles city skyline, and amazing mountain views.  They will also have access to hiking trails. Following their Hollywood Sign visit, riders will make their next stop at the Griffith Observatory for free admission to the Observatory, exhibit programs, and access to multiple planetarium shows.

The Hollywood Sign, one of L.A.’s most popular sites visited by locals and tourists alike, has become a worldwide symbol. However, many are quite surprised to discover that it’s actually illegal to get anywhere near the sign, which is set behind restricting gates and protected by security cameras and Park Rangers.

The program benefits both the surrounding communities as well as locals and tourists who wish to visit these historic landmarks. The shuttle service program also minimizes the high volume of vehicle traffic in both the Hollywood Hills and Beachwood Canyon residential  areas.
