In Search of Gold at Jackson, California

When roving reporter Berylee Baker visited Jackson, California recently, she landed smack dab in the middle of festive celebration, the annul Christmas Delights sponsored by the Jackson Business and Community Association. Jackson is located along Historic Gold Rush Highway 49, approx. an hour drive from Sacramento or 2 hours 30 minutes from San Francisco.

Christmas Delights, which is held the Friday and Saturday of Thanksgiving week-end, is but one of many events that brings this Gold Rush town rushing to the downtown streets in search of golden sunshine and fun. Cheerful costumed Christmas characters roving the street, a small parade and Santa Claus were a few of the highlights of the city that promises to bring more “gold” your way. The tourist destination is already planning its 2012 events roster.

Here are some 2012 Jackson events:

  • Dandelion Days – annual flea market on Main St. every March around St. Patrick’s Day presented by the Jackson Lion’s Club. The event will most likely take place the weekend of March 17-18, 2012, rain or shine. Check back for details on Dandelion Days at- ci.jackson.ca.us
  • Mother Lode Car Show – Annual downtown car show and dance presented by the Jackson Business and Community Association. Scheduled on the third Saturday in May — May 19, 2012.
  • 4th of July Celebration – annual celebration of our nation’s birthday, sponsored by the Jackson Lion’s Club. The event takes place on the 3rd of July each year and is held at the Jackson Junior High School field.
