Life Rolls On With Help From California Surfing Volunteers

Life Rolls On California Style for Spinal Cord Injury Surfers

Written by: Chris MacDonald

Approx. 37 paraplegics and quadriplegics mounted surfboards and experienced the thrill of riding the waves during a one-day event in Huntington Beach sponsored by Life Rolls On. These participants and more than 200 volunteers who helped them from their wheelchairs onto surfboards, then into the water for exciting rides, were part of the 2011 "They Will Surf Again" road tour making stops in various beach cities around the nation.

They Will Surf Again (TWSA) empowers disabled individuals the opportunity to surf despite paralysis. As the 40th TWSA event since the program's inception, this also marks the first stop on a nine-city national tour.

At the event were Ali Stroker, a Los Angeles based actress who sustained spinal cord injuries as a child, Power 106 Radio Personality Jeff Garcia, and Patrick Ivison, who appeared on an E Television Special, Born Different 2: More Amazing Medical Stories. Life Rolls On National Outreach Director Jesse Billauer was also there to encourage the adaptive surfers.
