Turkey stampede, pig racing and Rockets K-9 Comets are several of the wildly popular animal shows that have people coming back to the fair to be entertained. OK, so it’s not how life is on the turkey farm, or the pig farm, but in the fair world where attendance is everything, you have to pull out all the stops to beef up the gate entrance figures. This weekend at fairs in Watsonville (Santa Cruz County Fair), Boonville (Mendocino County Fair ), Pomona (Los Angeles County Fair) and Tulare (Tulare County Fair) you’ll see some amazing things! Note: There are still 8 or 9 fairs to see this year so don’#8217;t panic.

Weekend highlights:

• Santa Cruz County Fair Sept. 9-14, 2014 motto: Sew It, Grow It, Show It – Animal trick shows, lots of them, including horse show
• Tulare County Fair Sept. 10-14: Celebrating the Bounty of County – Buttercup, the Butter Cow, a life-size cow made entirely of butter!
• Los Angeles County Fair Aug. 29- Sept. 28: Discover LACF – Luminasia lanterns the size of the Great Wall of China and more!
• Mendocino County Fair & Apple Show in Boonville Sept. 12-14: Wine tasting, bean spitting and California Wool & Fiber Festival
