Jackson saw Tompkins wearing red & black cowboy boots and asked for his own personal version made of metal. The design team found inspiration in sabatons, the part of a knight’s armor that protected the foot. They also helped Michael develop the single glove. Inspired by entertainers such as Buffalo Bill Cody who decorated his gloves with flashy beads merely for show, Jackson wrote in his autobiography that “wearing two gloves seemed so ordinary, but a single glove was different and definitely a look.”
