Huntington Beach Police Chief Ken Small's Administrative Assistant Karin Reed says: Pharmaceutical Drug Disposal Program

The City of Huntington Beach has installed a Pharmaceutical Drug Disposal box in the Lobby of the Huntington Beach Police Department. The Pharmaceutical Disposal program is being implemented so citizens can properly dispose of their old prescription medications, instead of placing them in the trash or flushing them down the toilet. Improperly disposing of unused medications can harm others and the environment.

Medications which are flushed down the toilet are not completely removed by the sewage treatment facilities. These medications can enter the soil, surface water, and ground water. Research studies have shown that exposure to drugs found in waterways are having a serious impact on fish and other aquatic life. The Huntington Beach Police Department front lobby is open from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm, seven days a week.

The Huntington Beach Public Works Department has no new items to mention.

Long Beach Third District City Council Person Gary DeLong would like to Inform You of what's happening at Marina Pacifica Shopping Center in Long Beach near Second Street and Pacific Coast Highway. Where Albertson's used to be is going to be a Gelson's Market and where City Bank and Coldwell Banker were is going to be a CVS Pharmacy. Stay tuned as the renovation starts on these projects.

This is from Patrick Gallegos at The City Of Seal Beach :
The City of Seal Beach is pleased to announce the start of construction for the Ocean Avenue Alley Waterline and Sewer Replacements from Main Street to 6th Street. The project includes construction of new sewer, waterlines and a new concrete alley.

On December 10, 2012 the City Council awarded a construction contract to Charles King Company (City's Contractor). The Contractor anticipates closing the alley north of Ocean Avenue between Main Street and 8th Street tentatively on Monday, March 4, 2013. However, in the meantime the Contractor will be performing some minor construction work between Main Street and 8th Street, not closing the alley until the mentioned date above.

In order to minimize the impact to residents, the contractor will construct the project one block at a time. During each block's construction window, there will be no access to that alley for vehicles or pedestrians. Properties with garage access on the alley will not be permitted to use the alley. These temporary changes will not affect your trash pickup, which will remain on schedule.

Due to the parking impact on the neighborhood, free parking will be provided in the 8th Street beach parking lot to those immediately affected in that block. Two residential and one visitor parking permits will be issued per household for the period of construction, which is anticipated at two months per block.

Your cooperation will be critical to the safe and successful completion of this project. This temporary inconvenience will provide years of quality utilities and a nicely concrete surfaced alley.
