Swim with Leopard Sharks San Diego

Welcome to the shark infested waters off San Diego's coast in La Jolla where you can snorkel, swim and kayak with the sharks. Never mind that 14 miles upcoast in Solana Beach David Roger Martin was killed by a great white shark while swimming with a group of triathletes in the Pacific Ocean. According to experts at Birch Aquarium, La Jolla Shores is important to the legendary leopard sharks that make their home in local waters. Posing no threat to humans unless provoked, they congregate at La Jolla Shores every summer due to the calm, warm, shallow water and abundant food in the nearby La Jolla and Scripps Canyons, kelp forest, and rocky reefs. For those who want to see them close up, Birch Aquarium offers summer snorkeling adventures July-September, call: (858) 534-7336. A private snorkeling company also offers leopard shark snorkeling and kayak tours with more ways to see them. And if you would rather NOT swim with the sharks, you can still see them up close when you visit Birch Aquarium.
