Canyon Lake, California Information

If Canyon Lake had to be described in one word, that word would be unique. One of only five gated cities in California, Canyon Lake began as a master-planned community developed by Corona Land Company in 1968. The Lake originally was formed in 1927 after Railroad Canyon Dam was built. It covers 383 acres and has 14.9 miles of shoreline. The "City of Canyon Lake" was incorporated on December 1, 1990. The City has a population of 11,051 and geographically spans 4.6 square miles.

Canyon lake is located in Riverside County, which offers a growing job base, newly built designer homes and great schools.

With 14.9 miles of shoreline, Canyon Lake is a 383-acre lake within the private gated community. It was formed by a dam that was built in 1927. Rainwater coming from the San Jacinto Mountains and surrounding valleys supplied the lake with water until 1955 when an agreement between the Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District and Temescal Water Company brought a more stable supply to the reservoir. The POA leases surface rights to the lake for the enjoyment of its membership. Lakeside parks, swimming areas, fishing "holes", beaches, a slalom course and a jump lagoon, gas docks, and rental slips make the lake a busy place, thanks to the Canyon Lakers and the more than 2,000 boats they have registered with the POA. Each year the Association stocks the lake with a generous supply of catfish and bass, which join the crappie and bluegill there for the enjoyment of the fishermen. Canyon Lake Property Owners Association consists of 4800 custom built homes and lots.
