Isleton, California in Delta Country

Isleton isn't a large city (population under 1,000) and many of the trappings of urban life seem to have passed this Delta town by. But don't let it fool you. Everything is by design. When you arrive in Isleton, you can't help but feel relaxed at this water oasis.

Isleton is located on Andrus Island in Sacramento County with access to the California State Capitol in the City of Sacramento approx. 40 miles distance, and under one hour drive. Amid the slough wetlands of the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta, visitors can drive for miles at the water's edge and enjoy the sights of marinas, boating activity, unique bridges and amazing  bird migrations in fields stretching along roadsides. If you're into fishing, boating and birding, Isleton has it.

Another attraction is wine tasting. The Lodi AVA (American Viticultural Area) a mere 30 minutes from Isleton includes Lodi Wine & Visitors Center where you can begin your sampling and wine buying. Once you get your bearings, head out along the wine trail with more than 50 wineries and tasting rooms.

Back in Isleton, be sure to check out the Chinese and Japanese Commercial Districts listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Another piece of history you can't miss is the unique Isleton Bridge spanning the Sacramento River. It is one of the very few unmodified examples in California of the Strauss Heel Trunnion Bascule Bridge. It was also a link in the Victory Highway, a transcontinental highway, and played an integral part in transportation and agricultural history in the California Delta Region.

Though many people come to Isleton just to see historical points of interest, the buildings don't tell the story alone.

The water is very much a part of this city's life and it's a very big draw for visitors today who not only come to learn, but to enjoy!

Some of the activities that keep smiles coming include boating, kayaking, paddleboarding, fishing, canoeing, bird watching, sipping the local wines and brews, and telling a fish tale or two.

Folks at the award-winning Owl Harbor Marina and other marinas in the area are known to greet guests with amazing Delta hospitality.

It's not so much a hidden secret that this place is a great escape, at least not in the Bay Area. But Isleton is often overlooked by the rest of Californians who haven't had it on their radar.  There's hardly a bad time to visit as each season has its gifts. In the winter there's a harbor lights parade. In the fall there are bird migrations which are amazing to see. In the spring the fruit blossoms fill the landscape with beauty and grace and in summer, there's no finer place to be than out on the water doing what you love when the days are Delta warm.
