Weed, CA Travel, Photos Information and News

Fields of lavender in Weed, California.

Located midway between San Francisco and Portland, OR, along the busy I-5, Weed is part of the Volcanic Scenic Byway, a 500 mile route beginning in California's Lake Amador basin and ending at Crater Lake in Oregon.

What about Weed? In the city of less than 4,000 people, there are restaurants, hotels and things to do. There's even a visitors center at 34 Main St. In July people look forward to the Carnivale, then there's a car show, snowmobiling in the winter, fishing in the lakes, water skiing in the summer months, bird watching, hunting, and living the good life near the Oregon border at the base of Mount Shasta. For tourists passing through on road trips, Weed's Lake Shastina Golf Resort (lakeshastinagolf.com) designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr .& Sr., has 27 holes set of golf with the splendor of Mt. Shasta as the back drop. You can stay & play or just book one of the affordable hotel rooms or suites overlooking the golf course.

There's enough to do, but locals like to meet each week and talk about a common goal--beautifying Weed. Most Mondays from 7 to 8 p.m. a group of dedicated locals and organizations meet to help beautify Weed. In this Northern California town, even the weeds are beautiful!
