California's senior population is expected to grow more than twice as fast as the total population. The elderly age group (60 and above) will have an overall increase of 112% during the period from 1990 to 2020 and the "oldest of the old" age 85 and above will increase at even a faster rate than the elderly, having an overall increase of 143% during the period from 1990 to 2020.
