Synopsis: For those who say people are moving away from California, the numbers simply do not bare out this theory. The state grew approx. 1% in a single year, even while the economy faltered and the State of California suffered a greater percent of job losses than most other states. One of the largest deficits of any single state in the U.S. did not seem to curb population increases either.

9 California counties have a population of more than one million residents. The largest county for population is Los Angeles with over 10 million residents. #2 is San Diego, barely beating out #3 Orange County. #4 is Riverside, #5 is San Bernardino.

Counties over 1 million from largest population to smallest include Santa Clara, Alameda, Sacramento and Contra Costa.
