This year’s production, Antony and Cleopatra, set against the backdrop of the Roman Empire and Egypt, explores the tension between duty and desire, and the powerful impact of personal relationships on political ambition. The San Francisco Shakespeare Festival returns to Redwood City for three weekends with performances at 6 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday. Bring a picnic and enjoy an unforgettable evening of outdoor theater under the summer sky.

Free Shakespeare in the Park is celebrating 44 years of free, in-person outdoor theater performances, this year featuring Antony and Cleopatra, Shakespeare’s classic tragedy - its first appearance in print was published in 1623 under the title The Tragedie of Anthonie, and Cleopatra.

Since its founding in 1983, SF Shakespeare Festival’s Free Shakespeare in the Park has made the words and themes of Shakespeare accessible to everyone, regardless of age, background, financial status, or experience with theater. Now celebrating 44 years of free, high-quality outdoor performances, SF Shakes invites audiences to enjoy a fresh reimagining of Shakespeare’s timeless stories in a relaxed, welcoming setting.

Shakespeare in the Park is performed by San Francisco Shakespeare Festival - No reservations required. Just show up. No seating is provided. Blankets and low chairs  6" off the ground or less, and a backrest no taller than shoulder height) are welcome. Tall chairs are permitted as indicated by the sign in the meadow in order to minimize the impact on the view of the stage.
