The pendulum swings, and a petty universe of leaders works alone, ignoring the needs of those they supposedly govern. Human values erode as governments vying for power overtake the mere living of life. Ellen Geer's edit of Henry VI Part I, II, III, and Richard III centers Queen Margaret and the women and children of Shakespeare's civil war saga. Merry Wives of Windsor

Written by William Shakespeare
Directed by Ellen Geer

June 11-October 2, 2022

Theatricum's production of The Merry Wives of Windsor is re-set in 1950s small-town America, along with a score of rockin' 50s tunes. When John Falstaff blows into town on his Harley and tries to woo two wealthy women at once, the opportunistic schemer and womanizer gets his comeuppance by townsfolk in an era where the fight for women's rights has begun in full force.

Traditional Shakespeare productions go like this: Falstaff arrives in Windsor very short on money. He decides that, to obtain financial advantage, he will court two wealthy married women. The "merry wives" aren't interested in the aging, overweight Falstaff; however, for the sake of their own amusement and to gain revenge for his assumptions towards them, they both pretend to respond to his advances. This results in great embarrassment for Falstaff.
