Halloween is synonymous with Autumn and in Wheatland, California it means harvest season, a reason to celebrate beautiful golden sunsets, sunflowers and pumpkins. Bishop's Pumpkin Patch started out as a farm which grew and blossomed through the years. It has become the area's biggest annual attraction, hiring approx. 800 seasonal team members to:

  • Operate the many restaurants that make fresh pies, hard ciders, apple ciders, candy apples, BBQ, fries and more
  • Maintain & operate the rides throughout the farm attraction, including the popular hayride
  • Supply and stock the thousands of pumpkins for sale
  • Direct traffic as visitors pour into park by the thousands
  • Care & feed the animals in the petting zoo, in the pig races and on pony rides
  • Bring in fresh bales of hay, clean the facilities, wildly popular firepits
  • Operate the movies on movie nights
  • Take tickets for rides, sell merchandise in gift shops

This free admission attraction became what it is today when farm owners, Bill & Sandy Bishop, bought some land in 1971 and started to grow things. Not only did they grow alfalfa, beans, and raise hogs, but they grew an empire when Sandy, a school teacher, got the bright idea to help her students learn about food and farming by teaching them to grow pumpkins. The concept took off and became so popular that they acquired more land, built rides and attractions, and became the epi-center of fun in the region for their Halloween harvest celebrations.

Still owned & operated by the Bishop Family, the farm was annexed into the City of Wheatland in 2011 so they could obtain permits to build restrooms for the public. To this day, the City of Wheatland holds special council meetings to discuss Bishop's Pumpkin Farm operations and parking, attempting to smooth the process of accommodating visitors who come in the droves for wholesome, free, family fun. While food, rides, pumpkins, produce and merchandise are sold, admission is free!
