This annual event is one of Banning's biggest and most enthusiastic celebrations. If you want to meet locals, this festival offers great opportunities. Fun community contests, the rodeo, parade featuring a horse-drawn stagecoach, dances, bands, and three days of excitement offer opportunities to pull out the boots, put on the Western hat and get down. Yee-haw!

Living history activities and events. Enjoy the park filled with docents dressed in period clothing who discuss the 1850s and give demonstrations. You and the kids can participate in rope making, candle dipping, dutch oven cooking, sawmill wood working and games from the past.

Historic steam and diesel locomotive take adventurers on a scenic 6-mile Gold Country train trip. The 45-minute journey passes a "Petticoat Junction" water tower, the backyards of Jamestown and rugged hillsides of California's Mother Lode country. The train uncouples at Rock Spur, then re-couples to return to Jamestown.

Harvest Mission Life Day is filled with activities rekindling this historic mission's past.  Stomp grapes and thresh wheat at the harvest, and enjoy other traditional Mission activities with wonderful volunteer docents. La Purisima Mission is operated by California State Parks and charges a fee to park on-site.

Celebrate the holidays the Bourn Family, the Starrs, and chatty housekeeper Katie Moriarty (portrayed by docents in costume.) Santa and Mrs. Claus listen to Christmas wishes while the Mine Shaft, the Machine, Wood, and Blacksmith Shops are buzzing with activity, all part of the grit and glory of the Old West.  Vendors sell coffee, hot dogs, and snacks while the Gift Shop is filled with geological 'gems', jewelry, and mementoes, along with heritage roses propagated on the premises.
