Gridley in Butte County is approx. 70 miles northeast 0f Sacramento.
Red Suspenders Day began in 1961 as a dance to raise revenue for the volunteer firemen of Gridley. It's now a community wide celebration spanning two days. This event continues to honor local firefighters and police with a parade, Firemen's games, Unjustice court and two days of family fun.
Unjustice Court: Nominate your favorite person to be 'jailed' in Rotary Park until they raise enough money to make bail. Arrest warrants will be available in the Gridley Herald and at the Chamber Office for free. They can be purchased and filled out before or the day of the court. 'Offenders' are arrested by either the Volunteer Police or the Fire Department and brought to Rotary Park to stand before Judge Dean Price. They are sentenced, jailed and fed water or soft drinks and pizza. They have to arrange for their bail to be paid before they can be discharged. The amount depends on the 'seriousness' of the charge and the ability to pay. People are allowed to come photograph their friends and/or relatives behind bars.
