Beijing, China Tiananmen Square Soldiers

Tiananmen Square contains Monument to the People's Heroes, the Great Hall of the People, the National Museum of China, and the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong. There's a healthy presence of guards in uniforms and the marches by military through the Square as shown in the photo above.

Tiananmen Square gained international fame for the June  1989 student-led, pro-Democracy uprising and protest of an estimated million people. On June 4th, Chinese troops and security police stormed through, firing into the crowds of protesters. Turmoil ensued, leaving up to a thousand or more protesters dead and 10,000 arrested.
