Photo: Surfer at Sunset seen through the Huntington Beach Pier Pilings

For those looking to capture sunsets with surfers and the pier all in one image, its going to be tough to do it on the north side of the pier where this surfer stands. As you walk onto the pier, the north side would be your right hand. That is where the sun goes down. Shown in the picture is a surfer on the north side of Huntington Beach Pier, seen through the pier pilings as the sun sets in the West. Huntington Beach Pier is situated on a west facing beach, with no manmade jetties to slow the incoming waves. Because of its location and situation, the waves are some of the strongest to be hand in Southern California, making this city and beach location one of the best bets for great surfing pretty much year-round.

For non-surfers it's fun to stand on the beach and watch the sunsets and surfing, or head up the cement stairs (there's also handicap access and an elevator next to Duke's HB restaurant to access the HB Pier, as locals call it. From the pier you get a whole different perspective!
