Slick is a bronze sculpture of a seal at the base of the Seal Beach
Pier. The small statue welcomes millions of travelers and greets kids
who have hugged the statue countless times. People all stop to take
photographs with Slick. The the object is no more real than the pier on
which it sits, there's something soulful and appealing about the
sculptural piece that speaks to people.
When the city faced one of its worst disasters in which a mass murder
in a hair salon took place in 2011, Slick provided comfort to townsfolk
who left fresh cut flowers next to him on the Seal Beach Pier.
