Capitola Wharf is a focal point
to the city of Capitola, south of Santa
Cruz in Santa Cruz County. The wooden
pier structure maintained by the city of
Capitola includes a small attached dock
accessible by a set of stairs where
small craft such as kayaks can be rented
and launched.
Diners can eat a leisurely meal
inside
Wharf
House Restaurant with its ocean view tables, or out on the pier patio.
Capitola wharf is nestled at the base of hill that contains some of the counties
oldest condominiums and vacation homes. With amazing forever views, those
residents get to see the wharf from
above, but the best way to experience it
is to walk through the intricate
ironwork gate with "Capitola Wharf"
inscribed in the design.
The wharf is great for dining,
launching a kayak, and watching. You can
see the bay filled with bobbing
sailboats and kayaks, and further out
watch the migrating whales and dolphins passing through the Monterey
Bay, one of the parks in the National Marine Sanctuary.
Can can also see surfers riding the
waves--Capitola is one of the top surfing destinations
along the coast, along with Santa Cruz.
Both have a rich, storied past filled
with surfers and surfing lore.
Brightly
colored Venetian Village vacation cottages are a landmark on
the sand next to the wharf, providing many happy times for tourists who have had
the opportunity to get to know the
beaches, wharf and the glory of Capitola
by the Sea.
The wharf
is open from sunrise to 10:30 p.m.
