American Canyon in Napa County, California is the gateway to both high tech computer industries, new thinking companies, and the Napa / Sonoma Wine Country region. Growing rapidly into a major economy outside the San Francisco bay, American Canyon is north of San Francisco and Oakland, and is located close to Six Flags Marin World in Vallejo.

Once a quaint and rural atmosphere as you entered the city, some of the old-time flavor remains. However, new hotels have been added to the city to make it a more appealing tourist destination.

One of the popular hotel is the Gaia Hotel, a small boutique style hotel with all the requirements business travelers seek, plus amenities that vacationers require.

American Canyon was incorporated in 1992, making it one of California's newest and youngest cities with a population of under 20,000 as of this posting. Located in Napa County, Napa River is to the west, the foothills of the Sulphur Springs Mountain Range to the east, the City of Vallejo to the south and vineyards and the Napa Airport to the north.

Getting to American Canyon:

Napa Valley Winery Trail runs through American Canyon on Highway 29 and intersects with Highway 12 at the north end of town and Highway 37 near the south end. Highway 12 extends east to I-80 (3 miles) and west to the counties of Sonoma and Marin and Highway 101 (25 miles). Highway 37 is located one mile south of town and connects to I-80 or Highway 101.

Parks & Recreation—things to do in American Canyon:

Parks include a 20-acre community park, and a restored tidal wetlands. The trailhead of the Wetlands Edge segment of the Napa River Bay Trail is located at the corner of Wetlands Edge Road and Eucalyptus Drive, and the 640-acre Newell Open Space Preserve is located on the eastern edge of the City. It is a beautiful place to bird watch, nature watch, walk and hike.

What to wear:

Summers can be warm, sunny & dry so you will need some comfortable clothes for days that can reach the 90's on occasion. North-easterly winds from the San Francisco Bay combine in the winter with temperatures from 40s to 60s, making jackets a must in the winter months. Average rainfall is 18 inches per year. Wear comfortable shoes for walking, and the California casual style clothing, unless you are visiting for business.
