Whether you spend your weekend in Carmel by the Sea or Balboa Island (Newport Beach) you’re missing the main event this weekend if you don’t head to the art festival. Both seaside destinations are featuring annual art events, and they’re both FREE!

BALBOA ISLAND Art Festival May 18, 2014. This has to be the most scenic art festival in California.  It forces you to walk on the path next to the beach and bay, so you can’t escape the scenery that inspires so many great art works for sale.  The event includes over a mile of art vendors, live music and food trucks.

CARMEL BY THE SEA Art Festival May 15-18, 2014. This is a big art event with activities spanning four days. Carmel is one of California’s art city with more galleries per capita than nearly any other place (except maybe Laguna Beach). It will once again include the Plein Air competition, silent auction and sales, Sculpture-in-the-Park with live music, as well as a Quick Draw by the winning artists, and Kids Art Day.
