Celebrating California Pies

Claremont Pie Festival on March 18, 2017 is not only a contest to see who makes the best pie, but also includes a car show, pie eating, and pie baking demonstration by Kate McDermott, author of “The Art of Pie” book. While Americans brag about patriotism and apple pie, a recipe for chicken pie was written on a tablet in Sumer before 2000 BC. We’re still enjoying pies in the 21st Century and there’s a lot to celebrate if you look around, including 58 California county fairs with pie contests.
