CHEESY CRIME #1: TILLAMOOK CHEESE VANS STOLEN! Three bright orange Tillamook cheese vans stolen from a hotel parking lot in Manteca (July 12, 2014)  were recovered from a storage locker in Copperopolis (50 miles away). The restored Volkswagen minibuses valued at $100,000 each were on tour to promote Oregon-based Tillamook County Creamery Association’s dairy products. A tip helped police recover the vehicles and apprehend two suspects.

CHEESY CRIME #2: PEACOCKS KILLED!  The search is on to find the person(s) killing the Peacocks of Rolling Hills Estates. The colorful birds, part of the upscale community near Los Angeles since 1916 when Frank Vanderlip, the peninsula’s first developer, was given six pair of peafowl to “liven up” his quiet home in Portuguese Bend, are being poisoned, shot with guns, pellet guns and arrows. More than 50 birds have been killed in two years and residents are appalled. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals investigators are concerned about the violent manner in which some of the birds are being killed.
