California’s Oldest Christmas Tree Lane is a California Landmark and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Established with the planting of 150 deodar cedar trees in 1885, 35 years later the trees were decorated with holiday lights for the first time. In the early days pedestrians strolled to the glow of 10,000 colorful bulbs. Word spread and soon there were more than 20,000 people attending on a single evening. A tradition that had taken hold even gained the support of Southern California Edison. The public utility supplied electricity free of charge. Oh, the good old days! Today a volunteer committee keeps the tree tradition going and they seek donations to support this worthy cause. Christmas Tree Lane Tree Lighting Ceremony and craft fair take place on Dec. 13, 2014. The public is invited free.
