Feel the Redwoods

It’s been feeling like 100 degrees in many parts of California the past week (and in Death Valley the temperature has been pushing close to 110) but on California’s North Coast the weather couldn’t be more autumn-like. It’s sunshine or foggy mists in Crescent City where it hit 60 degrees… jacket weather.  Though there’s never a bad time to visit the redwoods, fall is especially conducive to travel at Jedediah Smith State Park where visitors are treated to less crowds, towering redwood trees and not as much rain as the winter months.  The park offers camping but for a similar price you can stay at Crescent City hotels from around $50-130 — Best Western Plus Northwoods Inn is a good choice. There’s so much to see along the North Coast, including miles of redwoods, beaches, bays, Battery Point Lighthouse and Trees of Mystery (Klammath), where a cool Sky Trail gondola ride which is included with admission takes you through the forest. Ahhhh…. feel the redwoods!
