Don’t wait for the much anticipated Halloween season to wear costumes. Here are some August festival opportunities to strut your stuff!

  • BRIDGEVILLE: Bridgefest & Flying Saucer Contest includes My Favorite Alien Costume Contest and of course, UFOs.
  • PEBBLE BEACH: Concours d’Elegance recommends resort casual clothing for walking and picnicking. “We encourage a polished appearance, paired with the perfect hat!”
  • SAN DIEGO: Tiki Oasis features Miss Tiki Oasis Pageant, Burlesque shows, Cabana Crew Strut and Tiki Camp for Kids. Beauty BouTiki for pin-up hairstyles preps attendees, along with Primp & Pose make up sessions for cool photo shoots. Saturday Night Showcase with King Kukulele includes costume contests for Ladies, Gents, Couples and Kids.
  • HUNTINGTON BEACH: Huck Finn Fishing Derby’s annual Huck Finn and Becky Thatcher Costume Contest invites freckle-faced kids to show their inner Huck or Becky. Suspenders, torn, checkered shirts, straw hats and bonnets are the rage for the judging parade on Huntington Beach Pier.
  • LONG BEACH: Art Deco Festival — Pack your vintage duds for luxury and grandeur immortalized in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s literary classic, The Great Gatsby. In vintage attire, meet at sunset on the deck of the Art Deco oceanliner, Queen Mary, for classic cocktails and dancing to Swingsations. Wear Sunday’s best for Swingin’ Sunday Tea Dance featuring Grammy-award-winning Ian Whitcomb and his Bungalow Boys in the Queen’s Salon.
