Pictured (left) is Woodside’s Kings Mountain Art Fair held on Labor Day Weekend. The event claims to rank as one of the Top Three Art Fairs in California. Pictured in right photo is Laguna Beach’s Sawdust Festival, one of three art festivals in Laguna Canyon during the summer months. Combined the Laguna Beach Sawdust Festival, Festival of Arts Pageant of the Masters, and Art A Fair are one of the best art festivals in the nation.
If you ask an artist what their favorite art festival is in California they will tell you it’s the one where they sell the most art. A slow day can be costly as there are few art shows that offer free tables or space to artists. The price to show your work can be as low as $50 (and sometimes free to members of an art association) or as high as thousands of dollars, depending on the venue and its popular success. Some shows are not picky–just pay your money and you’re in. Other art shows are juried events requiring artists to submit samples of their artwork for consideration. From a buyer’s or consumer’s perspective, the best art show is one in which there’s lots to look at, including musical entertainment and food. If you’re serious about purchasing art and you have money to spend you may pick up something at an art show, but often serious buyers will arrange gallery appointments to browse and discuss prices.
One of the biggest art show weekends in California is Labor Day Weekend. However, there are art shows every week –this weekend is no exception. Get out and smell the trees, sip some wine, dance to the music, and be inspired by great art! Here are a few shows!
