Old Fashioned 4th of July

There are countless 4th of July Parades taking place this year in California and at each and every event proud, flag-waving Americans participate in old-fashioned celebrations honoring the birth of a nation more than 200 years past. There are so many parades taking place that it’s difficult to offer a synopsis of each. One claims to be the biggest West of the Mississippi (Huntington Beach), and one claims to be the longest in the nation (Alameda).  There are children’s parades (Cupertino, Moraga and Belmont Shore), boat parades (Newport Beach, Lakeport), mountains parades (Ebbet’s Pass) and beach parades (Santa Barbara). There are new parades and those that have been around for a really long time (Vallejo’s 4th of July Parade is 162!)  Being in a parade can be fun but it’s also a nice to sit and watch the floats, bands, military and equestrian units go by. Give it a try…
