Manhattan Beach, Calif. Police have seen many things race down Manhattan Beach Blvd. hill that heads straight into Manhattan Beach Pier. On occasion they’re called to assist with runaway vehicles (skateboards, cars, bikes, etc.) but on one day each year they actually participate in races on the city’s most recognized hill overlooking its iconic pier. This weekend on Oct. 23, 2016 the famous Manhattan Beach Pumpkin Races pit the MBPD against the mayor and other officials in a race like no other. Not limited to the mucky mucks, everybody in town can race their exotic or simple designs. You just have to sign up and pay a fee, with proceeds this year benefitting “Make Autism Work”.
How it works: Most destinations and companies hire someone to run the event as that company also sells the race vehicle kits specially designed for pumpkins. See pumpkinrace.com
