While hundreds of thousands of travelers head for the top Sierra attractions this weekend — Yosemite National Park, Calaveras Big Trees, Mammoth Lakes and South Lake Tahoe for hiking, biking, camping and sight-seeing, special events fill the mountains with music and laughter.  Among those events are much anticipated traditions.

At the base of the beautiful Sierra mountains the City of Woodlake amps up for its biggest event of the year, the Woodlake Lions Rodeo May 9-10, 2015. The festival with over 50 years of tradition is always held on Mother’s Day Weekend. It includes a parade, competitions for all ages, dances, country western bands, dances, and the selection of a Rodeo Queen, combining leather, lead, silk and satin. There’s no greater way to get to know the locals than to attend Woodlake Rodeo.

In the Sierras this weekend the Mother Lode Roundup in Sonora on May 9 & 10 is presented by Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Posse. It also includes a parade, barrel racing, bronc riding, team roping, music, entertainment and a Rodeo Queen. More than 20,000 rodeo fans are expected to attend. Even though the setting and elevation in the Sierras is different the formula for good times is pretty much the same. Guaranteed!
