2019 World’s Ugliest Dog Champion, Scamp
Yesterday at Mother’s Beach in Long Beach, Calif. I saw a pretty, 20-something, long-haired blonde walking a tiny dog whose legs were shaky as it took each step.
“Is he injured?” I asked her.
“No, she’s 16,” said the smiling girl who stood patiently as her little friend valiantly plugged along. It was a heart-warming scene.
Then as I headed back to Naples Island where my car was parked, a guy passed by in a golf cart with his huge pooch stretched out in the passenger seat, drooling as he enjoyed the ride while the breeze cooled his thick brown coat.
Yep, California’s gone to the dogs, as evidenced by the World’s Ugliest Dog Contest at Sonoma-Marin Fair. On June 21, 2019, the newest winner was selected. Scamp the Tramp has been declared Scamp the Champ at the annual contest in Petaluma.
“Scamp defines ugly with cute, winning all our hearts,” said returning judge Kerry Sanders, NBC correspondent.
Scamp and his owner, Yvonne, are scheduled to appear in New York on NBC Today Show airing Monday, June 24, 2019 at 8 a.m. hour.
The fun and entertaining contest speaks to the importance of advocating for the adoration of all animals and the benefits of adopting. Many of the contestant dogs have been rescued from shelters and puppy mills, to find loving homes in the hands of those willing to adopt.
