Unique Easter Egg Hunts in California

Published on: March 21, 2012

Claimed to be one of the biggest Easter Egg Hunts in California , Mariner’s Church in Irvine boasts over 40,000 eggs at the April 7, 2012 Egg Scramble held at 3:30 and 7:30 p.m.

If you missed the lottery and your name wasn’t called for the Egg Hunt on the Capitol Lawn in Washington D.C., there’s a whole lot more going on in California and thousands of opportunities for kids and adults to celebrate spring with egg hunts:

In the East Bay (San Francisco) this weekend  Moraga’s Spring Egg Hunttakes place on March 24. The fun doesn’t stop there– activities in cities throughout California go through April 8, Easter Day.

There are over 450 cities and towns in California and nearly every one of them hosts at least one community egg hunt. If the city, the Kiwanis or Rotary isn’t hosting an event, look for them at hotels and resorts and churches, of course! Most  eggs in the hunts are plastic and are filled with candy or toys. But a few towns actually dye real eggs for the kids to hunt… it is an orchestrated effort requiring huge boiling pots and lots of refrigeration. It’s a real labor of love.

We updated many of this year’s hunts but if it only shows last year’s date, there’s usually a website you can visit or phone number to call for current information.  See the list of California Egg Hunts & Events.
