Whiskeytown Nationa Recreation Area in Shasta County is one of three National Recreation Areas in California that include Santa Monica mountains and Golden Gate Park in San Francisco Bay Area. Whiskeytown Lake inside the park is located approx. 8 miles north of Redding. The beautiful lake that you can swim in on those searing 100 degree days that are typical during summer months in Shasta County, is actually a reservoir that feeds from Whiskeytown Dam on Clear Creek, Lewiston Reservoir - Trinity River, and Trinity Lake. The beautiful blue scene is one of the most perfect settings in California for relaxing and taking in nature.

From Bald Eagles that soar overhead, to the wildlife that roams in the forests, visitors can hike numerous trails, enjoy water sports (jetskis and personal watercraft not allowed) such as swimming, kayaking, fishing, boating, and water-skiing.

The lake is a must see if you're driving between Redding and Eureka on the Redwood Coast. Located along Highway 299, the drive is incredibly scenic and worth a visit in Northern California. Admission is around $5 /day per car, and more for camping.

Whiskeytown Oak Bottom Campground inside the Recreation Area is managed by Forever Resorts, and allows you to call and make reservations: (530) 359-2269 (daily 8 am until 5 pm PST.) nps.gov
