Huntington Beach Police Chief Ken Small's Administrative Assistant Karin Reed says:

Police Chief Small, Mayor Boardman and Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD) representative Cynthia Wong honored the MADD Awardees at the Council meeting this past Monday. Ms. Wong presented a plaque on behalf of MADD to the following nine officers with 25-99 DUI arrests in 2012:

Officer Smiley (78 arrests), Officer Demetre (69 arrests), Officer Wilson (57 arrests), Officer Altenbach (40 arrests), Officer Baker (40 arrests), Officer Van Meter (34 arrests), Officer Dexter (32 arrests), Officer Knorr (27 arrests) and Officer Frahm (25 arrests).

With more than 100 DUI arrests in 2012, Officer Huynh and Sergeant Dereszynski will be honored at a MADD luncheon this week at the Nixon Library.

The Huntington Beach Public Works Department Construction Manager Eric Charlonne says:

Come celebrate Arbor Day at the Newland House at 19820 Beach Boulevard in Huntington Beach on Tuesday March 12, at 11:00 a.m. In coordination with the City's Tree and Landscape Division and the Huntington Beach Tree Society, a Coast Live Oak tree will be planted in Honor of Elaine Craft. Elaine Craft is the founder of Arbor Day for HB. She is being honored by the HB Tree Society for her involvement in bringing Arbor Day to the City. Elaine reads a poem every year during the planting. 5K Fun Run/Walk along the beautiful Huntington Beach Coast. Runners and Walkers will take off from the parking lot at Beach Blvd./PCH and proceed North, past the Pier and back again. Relatively easy course with one small incline. NO ANIMALS allowed on the course. We will be filming the event ! Please come support the 3rd Battalion/1st Marines and enjoy a great morning at the beach!

Packet Pick Up: Friday, March 8, 8:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m., First Christian Church, 1207 Main Street, Huntington Beach (corner of Main/17th).
Brief Description:
5K Fun Run/Walk along the beautiful Huntington Beach Coast. Runners will take off from the parking lot at Beach Blvd./PCH and proceed North, past the Pier and back again. Pancake breakfast served by HB Firefighters begins at 8:30 AM and is open to the public. Breakfast is $5 per person, and is NOT included in Run Registration.
PARKING:
Beach Parking Lot: $15 Metered Spaces along Pacific Coast Hwy. Limited parking on surface streets. Public Parking Structure: 2nd Block of Main Street. first 2 hours $1/hour; after 2 hours $1/20 mins.

The 3/1 Run is a family-friendly event with a relatively easy course, against the backdrop of the beautiful Huntington Beach coastline. Your participation in this event will help the 3/1 Foundation fund all the programs, projects and activities we undertake each year in support of our city's adopted battalion.
In 2005, the city of Huntington Beach adopted the 3rd Battalion/1st Marines out of Camp Pendleton, CA. The Huntington Beach 3/1 Marines Foundation was formed in 2006 to oversee all projects, programs and activities in support of the Marines, Sailors and Families of the Thundering Third.” Call: (714) 375-3131 for more Information.

Tuesday:

The Queen Maryin Long Beach presents: a Royal Rendezvous when the Queen Marywill be visited by Cunard's newest ocean liner, Queen Elizabeth. This once-in-a-generation event will include a whistle salute by both ships and a dazzling fireworks display. It is free to be on the ship starting at 4pm and the shows are at 6:30pm and 7:30pm.
