Huntington Beach News

Huntington Beach Beaches:

I'd like to start this newsletter Congratulating Paul and Rebecca Nelson from KOR Studios on their Second Daughter, Alexandria.

Wishing The Following People a Very Happy Birthday. They are: Miss Huntington Beach Hana Smith, Huntington Beach Resident Melissa Espenscheid, Huntington Coast Properties Broker Frank LoGrasso, My Neighbor Vanessa Tintle and Don Chock from The Hilton Waterfront Beach Resort.

Newport Beach City Council Woman Leslie Daigle Informed me of this, because I had been asked this several times. The Council voted to get rid of the fire pits on The Balboa Peninsula and Corona Del Mar. The Coastal Commission must okay it.

Huntington Beach Police Chief Ken Small's Administrative Assistant Karin Reed says: The Orange County Chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) held the 25th Annual Law Enforcement Recognition Luncheon last week for Officers with one hundred or more DUI Arrests. Four Huntington Beach Police Officers were recognized at luncheon this year. The Century Award winners are Officer Demetre with 114 arrests, and Officer Scott with 181 Arrests. The Double Century Award winners are Officer Tai Huynh with 229 Arrests, and Dave Dereszynski with 243 Arrests. Congratulations to all!

Huntington Beach Public Works Department Construction Manager Eric Charlonne says: Yes Edwards is complete with only very minor punch list work left to perform same goes for Center Avenue.

Public Works would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the affected residents and commuters for their patience during the construction of this and other recently completed projects on Edwards. We know these types of construction projects do have an impact on a daily basis for the surrounding communities. The good news there should not be any major work along this segment of Edwards for the next 10 to 20 years. Residents should notice the traffic noise reduced due to the use of rubberized asphalt.

The final rubberized asphalt caps that were placed on Edwards Street, Center Avenue and Delaware Street utilized this rubberized asphalt concrete (RAC) which contains crumb rubber derived from 100% California waste tire rubber. A two-inch layer of RAC uses over 2,000 waste tires per lane mile. These street segments, alone, diverted more than 16,500 waste tires that would otherwise end up in a landfill. If you have any questions please e-mail echarlonne@surfcity-hb.org .
