Escondido, CA Travel, Photos Information and News

Escondido in San Diego County isn't technically home to Wild Animal Park, a huge zoo where the animals roam in a more natural terrain. In an odd quirk of zoning, the City of San Diego managed to claim land approx. 30 minutes northeast of the city in an area that is next to Escondido. When you visit San Diego Wild Animal Park which is part of the San Diego Zoo facilities, the hotels of choice are in Escondido.

Escondido shown in the photos includes semi-mountainous, semi-desert terrain that enjoys year-round dry, pleasant weather. Summers are approx. 10 to 20 degrees warmer than the beaches nearby but that works in Escondido's favor during the winter months. It can be overcast and cool in downtown San Diego, but be sunny and shirt-sleeve not far away in Escondido.

The arts play an important part in Escondido, as evidenced by the numerous art organizations, museums, galleries and events.
