Recognized as one of the most affordable places to live in L.A., the city does a fantastic job of providing services, parks and events for the local population, courtesy of the revenue from the casino, which supplies between 60 and 75% of the city's revenue. In addition to festivals celebrating red-letter holidays such as Easter, Independence Day, Halloween and Christmas, there are also celebrations such as Mexican Independence Day and Robert Canada Friendship Powwow. Over three-quarters of the population is partially or 100% Hispanic descent, and native Americans, account for close to 9% of the population.

Hawaiian Gardens Casino (The Gardens) is known for its affordable food, friendly service and card games, operating the 2nd largest card club in the greater L.A. area. Some of the games include: No Limit Hold 'em, Blackjack, EZ Baccarat, Pai Gow Poker, 3 Card Poker and Omaha. The casino, contrary to popular belief, wasn't established by Islanders or Native Americans but by a controversial Florida investor named Moskowitz.
