Somoa, CA

Samoa, California once was an active lumberjack town where families lived in company housing and worked in the mills, or lumberjacking. It is one of the few, existing company towns examples remaining in California.

You can visit Samoa near Eureka in Humboldt County and dine at the oldest lumberjack restaurant in existence, still serving hearty meals to the public at the Somoa Cookhouse.

Inside this popular diner where you'll eat family style at long tables with red checkered oil cloths just like the lumberjacks did, there's a Lumberjack Museum with artifacts from the the lumber days.

Be sure to visit the restaurant and museum. It is the main attraction in the tiny town of Samoa. There also is a park in town where events are held.
