Alameda County is located in the Bay Area region of California. It was incorporated on June 6th, 1853. The County seat is Oakland. The word Alameda is derived from alamo the Spanish name for cottonwood or poplar tree. Alameda is a charter county. It occupies most of the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area with combined land and water mass of 821 square miles.
