California Sweet Potato Festival is held in Livingston, located in the Central Valley, known as the Sweet Potato Capital of the World, producing almost 300,000 tons of sweet potatoes annually, thanks to its sandy soil.

*NEW* House of Hauntmare will be added to the entertainment and a portion of the ticket benefits the Rec-Plex.

Every food vendor will have a delicious sweet potato specialty item. The Beer Garden opens Saturday and Sunday evenings  at 5 p.m. Discount Carnival Tickets at City Hall for $30 unlimited rides which is a $5 savings! Volunteers 

3 Sweet Potato Contests

  • Dress Your Tater Contest to dress your potato as a person, place or thing; open to all ages.
  • Sweet Potato Pie Eating Contest 10 minutes allotted with the first contestant who completely finishes their pie & crust  declared the winner.
  • Sweet Potato Moe Coloring ages 2-13 years

Numerous activities geared towards sweet potatoes.

California is the country's third-largest sweet potato producer, behind North Carolina and Mississippi, according to the California Sweetpotato Council, and 95% of the state's crop comes from the Livingston area. The rich agricultural San Joaquin Valley produces up to 18,000 acres of sweet potatoes. California Sweet Potato Growers is based in Livingston, casweetpotatogrowers.com

California offers many types of fresh sweet potatoes and yams. Varieties include, Beauregard, Covington, Dianes, Scarletts, OHenry Sweets, Golden Sweets and Oriental Sweets.

Each food vendor is required by the festival to offer an item on their menu featuring sweet potatoes. Each year the goal is to create a bigger and better festival and to create a local tradition that someday you can find on the map alongside the Gilroy Garlic Festival.

There will be a carnival, live bands, entertainment, Pro Wrestling and Lucha Libre, Kid Zone, baking contests, Sweet Potato Education Exhibit, Eli the Camel, and numerous activities geared towards sweet potatoes. Every food vendor will have a sweet potato specialty item. Sweet Potato Moe and his veggie pals will be our special guests at the festival.

CONTESTS
PIE EATING CONTEST Saturday and Sunday evenings at 6pm festivities will be kicked off with a Community Pie Eating Contest.

SWEET POTATO RECIPE CONTEST includes five categories of sweet potatoes recipes

COLORING CONTEST Contest for kids ages 2 to 13 years.
