OXNARD, CALIF.-- Oxnard Salsa Festival is an annual event celebrating the local agricultural assets and cultural roots of the Central California Coast beach city of Oxnard in Ventura County.
Oxnard Salsa Festival is billed as the celebration of Spicy Foods & Sizzling Entertainment, and that is exactly what it delivers. One of Oxnard's top events each year, the two day festival includes salsa and other spicy foods sold by vendors, and created for contests, and sizzling entertainment at Plaza Park, Fifth & B Streets in downtown Oxnard.
Held in Downtown Oxnard and supported by the businesses, it features top salsa bands, non-stop salsa dancing, vendor marketplace shopping, Kids Korner, Salsa Tasting Tent, international foods, a salsa recipe contest, and the Dance Contest & Charity Fundraiser.
Activities: The Salsa Festival kicks
off on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with a
live band and main stage music.
At the Oxnard Salsa Festival, salsa
dancing (and watching people dance) is
all part of the fun. From the first beat
of the conga on Saturday morning to the
last note on Sunday night, the large
dance floor is filled with dancers of
all ages and ability.
One of the most popular culinary
attractions at the Oxnard Festival is
the Salsa Tasting Tent, where some 500
gallons of specialty salsas are dished
up by local restaurants, Mexican
markets, and gourmet salsa vendors.
Whether your preference is for fresh &
fruity, hot & smoky, sweet & spicy or
eye-watering extreme blends that defy
description all flavors imaginable are
available under one roof in what could
very well be Ventura County's "biggest
salsa bar!"
Shopping includes an eclectic mix of
merchants throughout Plaza Park and on
the streets of downtown Oxnard. Handmade
jewelry, children's boutique items,
fashion wear & accessories,
pottery, garden art, home décor, and
imported clothing and handicrafts
provide great shopping for unique gifts.
Oxnard Salsa Festival also sells
Festival's souvenirs including
collectible t-shirts and four flavor
flavors of salsa, for example.
The Salsa Festival is Oxnard's largest
free community event, attracting an
estimated 40,000 to 45,000 people to
downtown every July.
Festival admission is free.
Getting to the Salsa Festival: Amtrak Pacific Surfliner train station is three blocks from the Salsa Festival.
Where to stay for this event: Many hotels surround the festival, providing great accommodations near the beach. Embassy Suites Mandalay Beach, Four Points by Sheraton (in Ventura) and many more are just minutes away.
