This is the oldest, continuously operating lighthouse on the West Coast and one of our favorites due to its spectacular surroundings and easy accessibility. Sitting in the middle of the public golf course, Pacific Grove Golf Links, the lighthouse is open to the public and is still in operation.

It's hard to believe that anyone continues to use light stations as GPS has replaced or made most of these lighthouses obsolete. However, Pacific Grove's lighthouse continues to operate as both a backup system to GPS and as an aid to some boats and ships requiring an extra set of "eyes" and "ears" along this rocky, rugged shoreline.

Since February 1, 1855, its beacon has flashed nightly as a guide and warning to ships off the rocky coast. Open Thursday-Monday, 1:00pm-4:00pm. Group reservations are required and voluntary fees of $2 for adults and $1 for youth are suggested. For more information, call 831-648-5716.
