Lompoc La Purisima Mission Events

The mission offers an active living history program. Annual events are the lifeblood of this mission with a strong and active volunteer crew.

El Pastor - Costumed docents provide offer demonstrations and conversations.

Purisima's People's Day - The year is 1822. Meet Padre Payeras, the Mayordomo, blacksmith, and the women and children completing their daily chores.

Childrens Mission Life - Costumed docents and staff invite kids to observe and participate in the craft activities that supplied the needs of the mission residents. Tortilla making, candle making, soap making, spinning and weaving, carpentry, pottery, and blacksmithing are a few activities.

Mountain Men - American Mountain Men wear buckskins and history and skills. Cooking, hide preparation and tanning, leather working, rope making, and blacksmithing are among the skills. Equipment will be on display and tall tales will surround the campfire.
Candlelight Tours

Village Days - The Tule Village combines traditional Chumash and Colonial Spanish ways. Demonstrators help visitors learn a variety of skills such as grinding acorns, basket weaving, building a tule house, making soapstone beads or tule dolls, and playing Chumash games.

Military Mission Life - In addition to activities of traditional mission life this event will emphasize the military life in the mission.

Candlelight Tours - The flicker of candlelight illuminates the evening activities of 1820's mission residents. As a guest of the padre, you will savor the cuisine of the 19th century.

Founding Day Mass at 7 p.m. Over 500 luminaries lead the way to an evening of candlelight and music celebrating the anniversary of the founding of La Purisima Mission in 1787. Enjoy the musical performance by a local group in the setting of the candlelit historic church. After the performance, guests are invited to La Sala to enjoy fellowship and refreshments.
