An invention known in the racing is world is the Naples Sabot, invented in Naples, California, by Roy McCullough, a resident of the the Long Beach waterfront community. Roy McCullough and R. A. Violette built another similar boat and perfected their design. Naples Sabot became the preferred dinghy for teaching beginners to sail. The sporty little boat also maneuvered well and began winning races in Alamitos Bay. Today you'll see the sabot taking place in races throughout the bay hosted by the local yacht clubs.
