It must be something in the air -- cities are spending big bucks for pier reconstruction.  Ingredients for pier plastic surgery include: epoxy, steel, concrete, wood

Cayucos Pier - The pier was closed for more than two years for a massive reconstruction effort to replace deteriorating piles, beams and cross bracing. It reopened in October 2015 after $3.5 million of work. In summer 2017 Cayucos Pier was closed on and off for maintenance work.

Long Beach Belmont Memorial Pier - Recent renovations took place in 2016-2017, and city officials are proposing a rebuild of the Belmont Veterans Memorial Pier before the 2028 Olympics come to town.

Monterey Wharf - Wharf II Pile Replacement & Repair - Critical repairs continue and may impact traffic on the wharf according to City of Monterey's report for week of Oct.30, 2017.

Newport Beach The city will spend $1.4 million on maintenance for its two piers, approved on Oct. 25, 2017

Pacifica - The Pacifica Fishing Pier Repair Project was completed in 2014, costing around $440,000.

Santa Cruz Wharf - Santa Cruz wharf restaurant, Miramar, is slated for demolition, rebuild with a new restaurant, the city announced in October 2017. Once the building is removed, the city also plans to replace damaged and missing wharf support pilings beneath the site that are difficult to access with buildings above them. The city’s 2017-2018 capital budget includes a $1 million of the total estimated $1.45 million cost set-aside for demolition and piling replacement.

Seal Beach - The end of the pier has been closed since Ruby’s Diner closed up in January 2013. The pier then sustained damage from waves caused by a hurricane off the Mexican coast in late August 2014. Then a former bait shop at the end of the pier caught fire destroying the former Ruby’s building in May 2016. As of October 2017 the city awaits a California Coastal Commission permit to begin reconstruction. If all goes well, it could reopen in 2019.

Ventura - Community leaders created Pier Into The Future (pierintothefuture.org) to establish a $1 million endowment fund to preserve and maintain this treasured resource for future generations to enjoy.
